Brendan Rodgers insists Leicester ‘will learn’ from Newcastle defeat

Newcastle's Fabian Schar formed part of two changes from their defeat at Palace as Leicester' sole change resulted in the return of Harry Maguire.

The Magpies didn't see much of the ball at the King Power, but it was them who came closest to taking the lead in the early stages when Salomon Rondon thundered a free kick against the angle of bar and post.

The Magpies are not mathematically safe from the drop but Perez is sure they have survived. Benitez's contract expires at the end of the season. "But we have to do things right".

Newcastle's defenders all excelled but they were brilliantly protected by Isaac Hayden in a defensive-midfield role.

"I have been trying to win titles everywhere, in different countries, and we have to have a team that can compete", he said.

Despite being put under pressure in the latter stages of the game, Newcastle held firm to claim the points.

They should be assured of maintaining their top-flight status after a hard season tarnished by Benitez's discontent over a lack of backing in the transfer market from controversial owner Mike Ashley. "That's what happened in my second season here, we were relegated with a great team".

And Perez believes the result was the most important yet this season given that it has nearly certainly ensured another season of Premier League football on Tyneside.

"You have to adapt yourself to what the manager wants".

He said: "It's not in our hands". "Hopefully, there is more to come in the four games we have left".

"Obviously winning makes everything easier but it's still something the manager and the club have to sort out".

Former England striker Vardy had scored six goals in Leicester's five Premier League games under Rodgers so far, but he was barely involved as his side slipped to defeat.

"It's about working on the training field". "We did very well".

The Magpies had numerous chances to get a second goal, but also never seemed like conceding a goal as they restricted Leicester to a lot of passes around the box.
