Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram down for users globally including Singapore

Facebook and Instagram were unable to be reached across the world this afternoon as sites display a "can't be reached" message. Europe, the United States and parts of Asia appear to be the worst hit locations.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the outage from Facebook, which owns all three services. This not only affects Malaysian users but it also appears to affect worldwide users as well.

People took to Twitter to report the outages, with #WhatsAppDown, #InstagramDown and #FacebookDown trending in Pakistan and across the globe.

Last month, Facebook experienced its worst outage ever.

Sunday's outage is yet another publicity problem for a company already dealing with privacy issues and regulatory probes.

The outages, which started at about 12.30pm South African time, were still not resolved an hour later.

There aren't any official announcements from Facebook just yet.
