A day after her history making final race, Winx has fronted the cameras again with her support team as they all wind down from the most incredible ride in Australian racing.

The seven-year-old, who survived a scare on Thursday when kicking out at railings and leaving a hole in an advertising board after her final gallop, came with her customary run from half a mile out, as the grandstands began to erupt. "(Winx) has captured the hearts of people all around the world".

Trainer Chris Waller sat surrounded by an ever expanding entourage and thanked everyone around the world for getting behind the mighty mare.

Hugh Bowman has been aboard Winx 30 times during her current winning streak and in 32 of her career starts, though he was aboard for one of Winx's rare defeats, a runner-up effort to the classy First Seal (Aus) (Fastnet Rock ) in the G1 Coolmore Flight Randwick in October 2014.

Her final run gave Waller his 100th Group 1 victor. "Very mixed (emotions), so proud to be a part of it", Bowman said. "But the day has finally come".

Experts predict each of her foals could fetch more than a million dollars.

The Melbourne Cup may be the race that stops the nation, but on a sunny Saturday afternoon it was Winx who drew every eyeball in Australia.

The Sydney Morning Herald called her "perfection on four legs".

As Winx approached the finish line for the last time, the victory assured, race caller Bruce McAvaney said "Farewell, an Australian icon, the greatest of all time".

"In terms of the general sporting public, Winx has gone way beyond being just a figure in horse racing - she is a major sporting figure in the country. She is the most fantastic, supreme athlete I think I've ever seen".

"To get that fairytale result, it was like your wedding day", Waller said in an interview on Sunrise on Channel 7.

"The way the crowd carried it home was just wonderful", Mr Morrison said after the race.

"Winx is one of those rare thoroughbreds - Phar Lap was one and Black Caviar and Makybe Diva got there as well - that have transcended the sport and got into the fabric of the nation".
