Pelicans, David Griffin Agree to Deal

Griffin fired Blatt in January 2016 and elevated assistant Tyronn Lue to replace him, and the Cavs went on to win their first National Basketball Association title that summer.

Griffin was the first of the interviews April 4 and was selected from a field of candidates that also included interim GM Danny Ferry, Brooklyn Nets executive Trajan Langdon and Houston Rockets assistant GM Gersson Rosas.

Griffin was named general manager in Cleveland in 2014 and oversaw three straight NBA Finals appearances including the 2016 NBA championship.

Minnesota traded Love to the Cavaliers.

In light of how Cleveland trading away Kyrie Irving may have marked the beginning of the end of James' second stint with the Cavs, Griffin could also opt to keep Davis on the roster and attempt to convince him to stay with the franchise by improving the roster and making the Pelicans a playoff team next season.

Griffin's contract expired following the 2017 season and he left the team after he was unable to agree with owner Dan Gilbert on terms for an extension. Griffin spent 17 years in the Phoenix Suns' front office. This where the Celtics presumably have a leg up on the Lakers, you'd think, given Tatum's experience as the focal point of an offensive attack (see: the Kyrie-less, Hayward-less postseason run the C's went on in 2018).

Gentry joined the Pelicans in the summer of 2015. "He's always been like a partner instead of like a dictator, and I feel like for professionals like ourselves and the guys in the locker room, we really respect that".

When he did play, it was rarely for much more than 20 minutes a game.

Davis demanded a trade earlier in the season, and he could become an unrestricted free agent in 2020. He credited the Pelicans with fostering his development and said he's open to coming back.
