National Hockey League suspends Leafs' Kadri for rest of 1st round

The Under is 25-10-1 in Boston's last 36 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 6-1 in Toronto's last seven vs. the Eastern Conference.

"You can talk about it all you want but".

If Mike Babcock had made a decision to award the opportunity by merit, it likely wouldn't have been Johnsson stepping in Kadri's pivot role on the power play he helped unlock after an 0-for-4 start. Krejci got a goal easier than he should have when both Matthews and Kasperi Kapanen failed to cover the slot when Rielly was knocked off the puck at the end boards.

Matthews, who had just two points against the Bruins in the 2018 post-season, picked up the second assist to match his total from a year ago. We started to lose count of the defensive plays Mitch Marner was making, especially coming back to help kill a Bruins chance in the offensive zone. We feel like depth on this team is something we have and we can take advantage of.

The amusing thing about that was that the on-ice part of his game wasn't even what anxious the Leafs most.

The Leafs knew the Bruins wouldn't wave any white flags in the third, but Toronto gave as good as they got - and when it came down to brass tacks, Andersen was superb, keeping the Bruins off the scoresheet in the final frame. Nylander provided a solid defensive effort.

Andreas Johnsson, also with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Moore provided the rest of the offense for Toronto.

"I just tried to stay focused and play my role", Johnsson said. During the regular season, Boston ranked 3rd in the league in power play conversions at 25.9% and 16th in penalty kill at 79.9%. He had been invited to an in-person hearing in NY, which could have led to a ban of at least five games from the NHL's department of player safety.

With so many variables, I am passing on this game entirely but there is another game that has my betting attention. "Instead, this is a player retaliating against an opponent by using his stick as a weapon to make forceful and direct head contact".

But the Bruins quickly reminded the Leafs why they finished ahead of them in the Atlantic Division race when Leafs defenceman Jake Muzzin took a holding penalty late in the period. Neither Marleau nor DeBrusk was injured.

Before we condemn these Leafs to a third straight first-round exit at the hands of the Bruins, let's take a look at the numbers from these last two meetings and compare them to what the Leafs have accomplished today.

Kadri was unlikely to escape further discipline with his suspension history.

Mar 13, 2015 Missed 3 games (disciplinary). They're trying to advance (in the playoffs). Boston evened the series in Game 2 Saturday night at TD Garden with a 4-1 win, but were not able to keep the momentum going in Toronto.

The Leafs are looking at life without him, as they'll need to find a way to finally defeat the Bruins without one of their most important forwards in the lineup.

If Babcock can trust Kadri - who is under contract through the 2021-22 season with an annual average salary of $4.5-million USA - we aren't sure how.
