Facebook Should Reveal Reasons Behind Outages, Insists Social Media Analyst

Downdetector, a site that tracks website outages, reported problems with Facebook starting as early as 6.30 a.m Sunday morning in NY.

Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014.

Facebook and its subsidiaries Instagram and WhatsApp experienced widespread outages on Sunday for the second time in the past month (and the third time this year), with issues reported starting at around 11am BST and extending until around 2pm. Downdetector.com's live blackout map demonstrated that the issues were predominantly in the region of Europe and Asia. Social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are used every minute all over the globe by thousands of people making them the most impactful and appreciated applications globally. The last noteworthy incident happened in March, when access to Facebook was restricted for some 24 hours.

[Yesterday], some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps. "The issue has since been resolved; we're sorry for any inconvenience", he said in an email.

Instagram, facebook and WhatsApp are down.

It is also not clear how many users were impacted by the outage, but according to Downdetector.com, a Web site which monitors outages, yesterday there were more than 9 000 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook. "What is wrong with Facebook", Kularakkhita asked in a tweet from Thailand.
