Red Sox LF Benintendi bruises foot on foul, exits game

All he needed was to get that first hit out of the way before he went off. How else to explain a lethargic effort in a 8-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The two-run single off Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello snapped the longest hitless streak by a non-pitcher in major league history. Bogaerts drove in the first run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning before belting a three-run shot off Orioles reliever Josh Lucas in the bottom of the eighth.

Sox pitching gave up another two home runs, including one to struggling Chris Davis. The next at-bat resulted in a double play off the bat of Eduardo Nunez and a big relief for Means. Do the Red Sox really need eight arms in the bullpen?

Meanwhile, the Sox offense was stagnant - just four hits. That would be as far as Mancini would get after Nunez, Hanser Alberto, and Jesus Sucre all failed to advance the hot-hitting outfielder/first baseman/designated hitter.

Price threw seven innings of shutout ball, giving up three hits, walking none, and striking out seven.

The Red Sox were quick to blame their poor start on an 11-game road trip to begin the year, but they did little to turn things around this last week at Fenway Park.
