What Russell Wilson's historic extension means for Rams, Jared Goff

According to a number of sources, including the National Football League network and ESPN, the deal is for four years at a whopping $140 million - the most lucrative in National Football League history. The deal comes with a no-trade clause, $107 million in guaranteed money, and a massive $65 million signing bonus (which also sets a record, according to ESPN.) This deal surpasses the record-setting contract Aaron Rodgers signed with the Green Bay Packers a year ago.

Recent rumors linked Wilson to the New York Giants as Eli Manning's replacement and suggested he might demand a trade if he and the Seahawks failed to agree to a long-term contract extension by Monday.

Wilson's reported annual average of $35 million tops the blockbuster extension signed last summer by Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers at $33.5 million. Rodgers' deal included a $57.5 million signing bonus, also topped by Wilson.

The Super Bowl winning quarterback posted a video of himself in bed with Ciara after reaching the new deal to announce it to the team's fans. "But I'ma see y'all in the morning. Time for y'all to go to bed". The deal reportedly came after several days of negotiation.

"Beyond that, if Prescott improves as Wilson did approaching 30, what can the club afford to pay him later on and remain competitive?"

He'll make $157 million in the next five years, including the $17 million he was set to earn in 2019.

"At the same time, and I know Dak wants this, you want a supporting cast", Jones said on a recent interview with ESPN Radio.

The deal ends the debate about Wilson's future with the Seahawks, although there seemed to be little doubt he would remain in Seattle for a while. The team held leverage knowing it likely had at least three more seasons with Wilson under center. The deadline helped, and Wilson's ability to scramble to reach a settlement in the final minutes locked him up on a four-year extension. If the Cowboys think life gets easier as their quarterback gains experience, it's nearly like they've forgotten the oldest rule in the book. He's also been extremely durable, never missing a game while playing through significant knee, ankle and shoulder injuries.
