Despite the piracy, the episode was watched by a record 17.4 million viewers across all of HBO's platforms (linear, HBO Now, and HBO Go), the premium cable network said on Monday.

Harington, who plays Jon Snow in the popular HBO show which began it's eighth and final season on Sunday, revealed in a behind-the-scenes clip that nearly lost his right testicle while filming the scene where his character rides one of Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) dragons.

Some 11.8 million people tuned in to the 9 p.m. premiere on linear television, falling just short of the 12.1 viewers brought in by the previous season's final episode. As with the season premiere, the episode 2 title is being kept under wraps until it airs - but we do know how long Game of Thrones episode 2 is, with a slightly longer run-time than the premiere at 58 minutes.

Images from the next episode of Game of Thrones have been released, and it looks like Winterfell is gearing up for a fight.

Kit Harington says that TV has developed so much since he started GOT that he can do interesting drama without committing to too many seasons. Nutter added that Lucas even had some input on the axe scene, which also happened to star Game of Thrones writer Dave Hill as the cranium-cloven victim.

Between February and April, season one was the most commonly streamed season.

'In the end, no-one's bigger fans of the show than we are, and we're kind of doing it for ourselves'.

There's an Office meme for every situation, including Game of Thrones. It's a fun and informative video for an GoT fan. "Despite considerable global efforts to tackle piracy over the past couple of years, this data shows that consumers are still being driven to unlicensed sources to find content".
