Mercedes-AMG updates its GLC 63 SUV lineup

At the time, though, we only had information and images for the base GLC 300 models. During its press conference at the 2019 New York International Auto Show the carmaker also disclosed plans for a fully electric version that will go by the name of EQB and will slot below the EQC.

Mercedes has also given the AMG pair a few styling tweaks, adding new head and tail-light designs, fresh 21-inch alloy wheels and larger twin tailpipes. Regardless of whether you go with the more practical GLC or the more slippery-looking AMG Coupe, there are visual changes. The biggest visual adjustment is the new lighting, front and rear. This means that the standard Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe both ship with the same old 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 rated at 476 hp (355 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lbft) of torque. If that's not enough power for you, well, first you might want to carefully reconsider.

What do those power metrics translate to? Expect them to dash from 0-100km/h in 4.0 and 3.8 seconds respectively and reach electronically-limited top speeds of 250km/h and 280km/h. Opting for the more powerful version also increases the top speed to 174 miles per hour, instead of the regular model's electronically limited 155-mph maximum velocity. And if you're feeling especially nerdy, then relish the fact this is the fastest SUV around the Nürburgring (at time of writing, of course); its 7m49.369s lap time might be whupped by 300bhp hot hatchbacks, but it beats that Alfa by two seconds and gets teasingly close to an E63 wagon.

My, what big. everything you have.

Named Concept GLB, the new Mercedes-Benz SUV features seven seats and a focus on spaciousness over sportiness, fitting in-between the GLA and GLC models. The new infotainment interface is much more powerful and configurable than the company's outgoing COMAND system. Other highlights include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, sports seats and aluminum trim. An AMG Line and a Night Package are also available on the 580.

Like other new-generation Mercedes models, a raft of vehicle operations can be initiated with the words "hey Mercedes", or by moving the hand in front of the console panel to bring up a range of menus controlling items such as the sound system, sat-nav, parking assist or even seat adjustment. Upholstery options have been bolstered with the introduction of a new grey/black choice with yellow contrast stitching.
