In fact, De Ligt himself made it clear that at the moment he has no agreements with any other team, so he could not confirm whether Sunday was, or not, his last game at Ajax.

The 36-year-old pundit was speaking on BBC and he said that the 26-year-old England worldwide was much better than the 19-year-old Ajax captain.

Having led Ajax to their first Champions League semi-final since 1997, 19-year-old De Ligt has become one of the hottest properties in European football and is high on the agenda of several of Europe's top clubs, including Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich.

Barcelona want to make sure they win the race for his signature, but are aware that the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are all keen on the Dutchman.

"He is clearly a player with a bright future ahead of him and is only nineteen years old".

Nevertheless, the final negotiations are yet to be known but De Ligt's inclusion in Barcelona's squad will surely bolster the defense line of the club as the Dutch defender has been phenomenal, despite not reaching to his true potential yet.

The Netherlands global has been instrumental in helping his side challenge for their domestic title this season and their progression to the semi-finals of the Champions League, scoring against both Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur.

Things have been on hold with so much at play, but Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already hinted he knows how things will end up. But I think Harry Maguire is a better player right now. "You can only imagine how good he will be when he actually is 29".
