Flight miraculously lands safely with no front landing gear

All the passengers and crew members are safe, media report stated.

The state-run carrier said the plane had departed from Yangon near the Myanmar coast and was approaching the airport in Mandalay when the pilot was unable to deploy the landing gear.

U Kyaw San said the plane's pilot learned about the problem with the nose gear as he was preparing to land.

Other footage from passengers showed smoke infiltrating the cabin as passengers awaited evacuation from the plane which made a miracle landing.

It was decided that the flight from Yangon to Mandalay should attempt an emergency landing, after dumping excess fuel to reduce aircraft weight and the amount of flammable material onboard.

"The pilot did a great job", said Win Khant, permanent secretary of Myanmar's Ministry of Transport and Communications, adding that the incident was being investigated.


Captain Myat Moe Aung was left to navigate the perilous situation after the passenger jet's landing gear failed, leaving him to negotiate the unsafe manoeuvre at 9am at Mandalay International Airport.

Emergency services were seen attending to the Embraer 190 XYAGQ aircraft with its nose on the tarmac. The front of the plane then hit the ground and scraped the tarmac as it came to a stop.

A police spokesman said: "One pilot, an air hostess and nine passengers were slightly injured".

The Myanmar National Airlines plane drifted down the runway at Mandalay airport before grinding to a halt.
