He said it would be smart "to take a bit of a hiatus" after the film's release.

I actually first said Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy had been canceled last August and went through the recent evidence just a few days ago as to why that happened.

"My guess is there probably will be at least one more live-action series that we produce for Disney+, a Star Wars series, before we release the next film", Iger said.

Game of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff may be wrapping up their final season in Westeros, but now they've got a new adventure ahead of them.

Speaking at the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the next batch of Star Wars movies the company will be released will be from the series penned by Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. It's amusing that Iger is basically like, "we have so much money, sure, we'll probably make another Star War".

Disney had announced in February 2018 that Benioff and Weiss would write and produce a new trilogy of Star Wars films, which was separate from the current slate of films, and the other new trilogy The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is creating. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker and whatever the two dinguses in charge of Game of Thrones can cook up, but in the meantime, the streaming service Disney+ is going all-in on the live-action Star Wars series business. "So we're not doing nothing. The conclusion that we reached was that three years was the proper amount of time to not only take a breather and reset, but to really gear up for the next film's release".

Iger said he hasn't seen the finished Rise of Skywalker yet, but he expects it will be extremely popular.

Fans are already speculating they could be released in the alternating years, 2023, 2025 and 2027, but that has not been confirmed. Among the original content planned for Disney+ are two live-action Star Wars shows, including one called The Mandalorian, and now Disney is teasing plans for a third series set in the same universe.
