A Texas police officer shot and killed a 45-year-old woman while trying to arrest her Monday night, authorities said.

Family members were not able to confirm if Turner was pregnant, KPRC said, while police also said they would not know until after an autopsy.

According to USA media, the officer, who has not been named, is an 11-year-old veteran of the Baytown Police Department He has been placed on paid administrative leave, Dorris said, adding that this is standard protocol.

In the video, which is circulating on social media, Turner could be heard saying "You're actually harassing me" and "I'm actually walking to my house" before falling to the ground.

The officer didn't open fire until after Turner, 44, grabbed his Taser and shocked him in the groin, according to The Associated Press.

Police say the officer then pulled his duty weapon and fired several shots, hitting her at least once.

The lieutenant said the officer, who is yet to be identified, was patrolling an apartment complex when he spotted the woman, who he'd dealt with before.

According to a database of fatal police shootings created by the Washington Post, at least 323 people in the U.S. have been shot and killed by police so far in 2019.

"I'm pregnant!" the woman shouts repeatedly as she is pinned to the ground by an officer, in the footage captured on a mobile phone.

Meanwhile, a video of the shooting posted on Snapchat shows the woman screaming to the officer that she was being harassed and that she was also pregnant.

Witness video of the incident was widely circulated on social media overnight.

"It's unfortunate that someone takes a tragic incident like this and starts posting it on social media", said Dorris. He has been placed on paid administrative leave. Police are awaiting confirmation of that fact from a medical examiner. "Of course, our hearts go out to the families of the deceased as well as our officer".

"This is the first shooting the officer has been involved in", said Lt. Steve Dorris of Baytown Police Department, reported KHOU 11.

Witnesses told the station that Turner was "not a bad person" and she would "just walk around, smoke her cigarettes and walk her dogs". It's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved.
