Michigan Basketball: Keeping Jon Sanderson is huge for Juwan Howard

Nobody expects Howard to fill Beilein's shoes as Beilein is clearly the best basketball coach the Wolverines have ever had.

Juwan Howard has created a new Twitter account and posted a highlight video after being named the head coach of the MI basketball team.

"There will be no splintering".

Taking over for Beilein is a former member of Michigan's legendary Fab Five. "Juwan has proven himself to be a tremendous leader, a wonderful communicator and a developer of talent". The two had been at odds for almost a decade, with one example of the divide being Webber's absence from ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary on the team that debuted in 2011.

Former Miami Heat player and assistant coach Juwan Howard has signed on to continue his blossoming coaching career at his alma mater, the University of MI.

The Fab Five - Rose, Webber, Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson - were Michigan's 1991 recruiting class that would go on to national championship appearances in 1992 and 1993. The scandal led to the Final Four banners being removed from the Crisler Center and a 10-year disassociation ban between Webber and the university, which ended in 2013. Howard's hiring may bring a wave of excitement with endorsements from former teammates such as Webber and Rose along with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Although Howard doesn't have ties to Michigan's recent history with Beilein, his connection to the school is significant. He was named for Jalen Rose, however, and it's expected U-M will have every opportunity to keep him in the fold. While we are losing a valuable member of our staff and a great friend, I am happy for him and his family.
