The announcement was made at the CODE Conference in Arizona on Tuesday by star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne.

On Wednesday, the show confirmed on its Twitter account that Netflix had renewed it for a second season. She co-created the series with Poehler and Leslye Headland, wrote several episodes and helmed the finale as director.

Launched in February, the first season of Russian Doll was acclaimed by both critics and the public, scoring a 96 per cent approval rating on the Rotten Tomatoes site. Is Netflix running the risk of tainting the incredible first season with a second one, or is Russian Doll only going to get better from here? "Nadia Vulvokov is a coder, as you know, so I guess it would be somewhat appropriate to maybe have this be the time and place to say yes, very much so, I would love to do that, Cindy". Her night resets and she's back in the bathroom of her birthday party, given a second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. chance to fix the loop. "And they said: 'Great, the more of that, the better". Concrete details about season 2 are being kept under lock and key, which is good news for those who appreciated the surprise spin on what appeared to be a familiar premise in season 1. "It's not a one-woman show, so what would be the most fun way to tell you this story?" Russian Doll is an excellent look at a wonderfully complicated female character and the joys that we, as the audience, can have while watching her journey. The more you guys this can be, the better.

Let's just hope that algorithm keeps doing its job, so those of us wanting more like Russian Doll don't have to miss out.
