Hence, the arrival of its successor is overdue. Razer Phone 2, launched past year, was the first smartphone to feature such display.

There's still no information regarding the rest of the ROG Phone 2's hardware.

Over the years, gaming phones have been the first to embrace displays with higher refresh rates, with the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 both including a 120hz LCD screen. The firm has also promised that upcoming games will be enhanced to deliver 120 Hz experience. The initial push was, of course, given by Razer with the Razer Phone and the trend was later headlined by companies like ASUS and Xiaomi with their ROG and BlackShark offerings, respectively. However, as it has been confirmed, the phone will come with an improved display.

According to a machine-translated version of a post on the Asus ROG Weibo page (h/t: GSMArena), the Asus ROG Phone 2 will sport a 120Hz refresh rate. The next-gen ROG device will be more special with the 120Hz screen which is already a feature of the Razer Phone and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium albeit hidden. Some people are saying it's the mobile gaming phone we deserve while others are saying it's an overkill.

Besides, the ROG Phone 2 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC under the hood.

The team up with Tencent Games, that is the creator of the globally acclaimed PUBG Mobile, among others may mean good things for the smartphone series' fans with goodies like new better games coming with the smartphone.

Further, the poster also confirms that ASUS has entered into a partnership of sorts with China's Tencent Games, leading some to believe that some games from the Tencent Games will be fully optimised for the upcoming phone's new display. However, the exact launch date is yet to be disclosed.
