His lead lasted less than a lap as Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing blew to the front.

It was an impressive display, but all that could have gone for naught if he hadn't been sharp on one final restart.

"Winning at MI means so much for Team Penske and Ford", Logano said after the race. Kurt Busch 3. Martin Truex Jr. 4.

Joey Logano came out on top Monday at the Firekeepers Casino 400.

"But, then the #22 went like a whole auto length before the restart zone".

You bet - but they might not have done anything differently if they were in Logano's situation at that moment.

"Well, I was able to see right in front of me. I think Joey out there in victory lane said we are at 51-percent now for Mr. Ford".

"There's nobody better than Joey that I'd like to see on a green and white checkered controlling the race". It was a good one.

Make of all that what you will, but it's pretty clear how Logano feels about all this.

"We review all starts and restarts from the tower and we looked at it and felt like he was in the restart zone", Sawyer said.

On lap 70, Kyle Weatherman - running his first Monster Energy Cup Series race of the year - hit the wall in turn two and part of his rear end detached, leading to a debris caution.

Kyle Larson walked away with $1million after winning the NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday.

The race was delayed from Sunday due to rain, but Logano dominated from the drop of the green flag. (He ultimately won the title.) The move was debated endless by NASCAR fans, and at the time, Truex said he wouldn't move any driver out of the way in a similar situation - unless Logano was in front of him because he'd want "an eye for an eye".

It was a dominant visit to MIS for Logano, who led a track-record 163 laps in the race.

Logano won the race off pit road to open Stage #2, while Darrell Wallace Jr. was penalised for changing lanes prior to the restart and had to serve a pass-through.

BROOKLYN, MICHIGAN - JUNE 10: Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Shell Pennzoil Ford, leads a pack of cars during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 10, 2019 in Brooklyn, Michigan.

It has never been easier to purchase tickets and camping at Michigan International Speedway in 2019.

As a late race caution took the race into overtime, Logano proved once again to be the leader of the race in the two-lap manufacturer's shootout.

Logano said he used his experience on previous restarts to hold off Busch over the final two laps. "I thought you were supposed to go in the box". Both Busch brothers trailed them in the second row with Kyle on the outside and Kurt on the inside. "A day like that, you don't bet those days all the time".
