Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has rubbished claims that new boss Frank Lampard's inexperience in management will be a problem for the club, amid calls for the club to reunite under his leadership following a rocky season.

"Our level and performances were not good enough and the reason they were not happy with us and negative".

Lampard is now in Ireland with his squad preparing for his first game in charge, a pre-season friendly against Bohemians on Wednesday.

Pedro, 31, has played for some of the best managers in his illustrious career and now has a chance to work under Lampard during his swansong.

The Blues are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title next season after they finished third and won the Europa League in Sarri's one and only season in charge of the club. We are very happy to have him with us. We turned it around and got the Europa League at the end. "He's a very good coach with very good ideas but it's only five days working with him and for the future we have to prepare very well this month".

Frank Lampard may not have the managerial experience that his top six counterparts posses, but he could be the flawless manager to help Batshuayi fulfil his potential.

"We were exhausted physically and mentally but now we are ready and preparing to have a great season. Obviously, sometimes we could have done better and now we have something unusual that is a transfer ban and we have a chance to see a lot of young players that are coming back from loan". Sarri is gone, his choice, and now we have to move on.

Michy Batshuayi scored the first goal of the new era when he cooly slotted home inside the penalty box, before the Blues conceded an 89th-minute equaliser. As well as reconnecting with the fans, Lampard could also bring a unifying presence to a dressing room with a reputation for turning against its leader.

"He was here for a very long and very successful period, and always set an example: how he wanted to break every record or improve himself in every session", Azpilicueta said.

Azpilicueta who was Lampard's teammate between 2012 and 2014 is hoping to give his best for the boss. We follow him and I can see it in training, the way he wants to play, the way he wants us to feel the shirt, the way he wants us to train every day is something special.

"It was a tough game for us", he told Chelsea's official website.
