Despite unconvincing performances in the group stage, Nigeria beat holders Cameroon in the second round and South Africa, who sensationally knocked out hosts Egypt, in the quarterfinals.

Super Eagles manager Rohr has once again defended his treatment of Henry Onyekuru and Victor Osimehn ahead of the team's Total Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against Algeria.

So far, the 2019 AFCON has been nothing short of sublime.

The Super Eagles recorded a 2-1 win against tournament favorites, Cote d'Ivoire in their quarter-final match before thumping Mali (also huge contenders) 4-1 in the semi-finals. "We had to do it to qualify and that proves the quality of this team", said Tunisia coach Alain Giresse. They went on to lift the trophy with a 1-0 defeat of Group C foes, Burkina Faso.

The Algerian defence will have to contend with the pace of youngsters Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Simon Moses in the attack.

And off the field, the Super Eagles are not lacking in motivation as dollars have continued to "fall" on the players for their inspiring performances. "We saw the goal he scored against Cameroon, in that position, you need someone that has legs", he added.

According to Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Nigerian oil mogul Femi Otedola has also promised to reward the team with $25 000 (R350 000) for every goal beginning from the encounter with Algeria.

Nigeria's Super Eagles now have even more incentive to pick up the scoring as they advance in AFCON 2019.

"The match against Algeria is going to be a very tough one for the Super Eagles but if they will sustain the tempo, I believe they will come out victorious".

"We are not anxious about the way they've played and their unbeaten run".

The German born tactician has however stated that they could lose the Madagascar game because they already secured their qualification to the knockout stage already.

"It is not possible to stroll to any continental title". It's going to be a great game to watch, let's hope Nigeria can do it.
