Need to quickly share your location with someone? Use HERE I AM - a simple yet effective app for just this one purpose. It zeroes in on your current location with the help of the built in GPS on the iPhone.
On launching the app, the screen shows you your current location with an accuracy number. Lower the number, higher the accuracy. Be patient till it zeroes in a good figure and click the EMAIL button. This launches the Mail application and the message body has a google map link.
The level of accuracy depends on coverage at your current location and can vary sometimes.

does this use true GPS or is it GSM triangulation ( which is available on all mobiles which can run google maps ) ?

The iPhone uses true GPS to zero in on the current location. GSM triangulation on other handsets can give varying and sometimes unexpected results due to poor signal strength in an area.
A lot of 3rd party iPhone apps use the GPS feature in highly innovative ways. More on those apps soon…
