I love Facebook. I love the iPhone. No surprises then that Facebook was one of the first apps I installed on the iPhone. However the earlier version was a let down in many respects. A lot of features which I’d got used to on the web version were sorely missing in the iPhone app.
Recently, the developers released the new and improved version 2.0 of FB and it simply rocks! The iPhone version supports a lot of the web features like commenting on friend’s status updates, people search, adding comments and captions to photos, adding new photos, photo tagging, notifications, inbox view and search, news feed and even facebook chat! I’ve successfully used all the features and I’m really not missing the web version.
The new version seems faster and the UI looks slick. I love the use of coloured icons to indicate activity. For eg. if there are no comments on a link, update or photo, there’s a green + icon so you can tap that to quickly add your comments. If there are comments already, then you see a blue icon with a number. All notifications and alerts are indicated by a bright red circular icon with a number. You can’t miss it.
All in all, I’m very impressed with this app and am amazed to see the level of mobile social networking functionality available on the iPhone. I’ve not touched the Facebook website ever since.
I’ve attached some screen-shots below. Get the app here.
