I’ve been playing iBowl on the iPhone and it’s by far the best bowling game I’ve played on a mobile device! This is what an iPhone game is all about. Ground breaking in its game play. Taking advantage of the device’s core hardware features really well.
It starts off like most bowling games. You’re presented with a bowling alley and you can move the bowl left or right and take aim. Now this is where the magic happens. There’s a button called BOWL on the screen. While keeping that button pressed, you have to swing your iPhone to release the ball!! Mimicking an actual bowling action. It even gauges the speed and puts spin on the ball. That’s swweeet.
The developers have tapped into the iPhone’s sensors and created a unique gaming experience. The physics are spot on. It feels right. Responds really well to fast or slow swinging actions. It’s addictive and THAT is the sign of a winner. They could have easily made this a commercial title but they chose to release this as freeware.
Overall, this game is a keeper. Another app I’d love to show to people as a demo of the iPhone’s capabilities. Kudos to the developers.
